![]() Not after a holiday or anything, but having not stepped foot in there in the last ten years. Our story begins with our protagonist, Nicole, making her way back to the Timberline hotel (named after the real life lodge that whose exterior was used as The Shining’s Overlook Hotel). So, prepare thyself, as we go back to the past… I won’t leak any major spoilers, but it’s the setting and theme that runs throughout the game. Now, I have to say this as a disclaimer (much as the game does on its intro screen) that there are strong themes of grooming and possible child abuse in the game, and as such, will be touched upon in the review. Well, it’s not, when I actually get into the story, but on the whole it’s great to experience something that makes you feel human, for better or worse, from time to time. The Suicide of Rachel Foster is no different, and that’s a good thing. Oh, you can pretend you are, but there’s always something in these games that hits the right sad spot and that’s it, you’re off. Take away our guns and make us sit through emotionally charged experiences, though, and we’re not ready for it. Before the likes of Gone Home, Firewatch and That Dragon, Cancer came along, we’d been so used to mowing down indiscriminate waves of aliens or questionably-motivated terrorist types without getting any of “the feels”. Walking simulators have got a lot to answer for. But that doesn't mean it should be ignored. The third theory could lead to a season two, but there hasn’t been any news on an additional season.A dark tale wrapped in some well-crafted visuals, The Suicide of Rachel Foster may be uncomfortable for some. The second theory could really fit the ending since that was all Rachel wanted, death. I’m not sure what theory I believe in, one doesn’t seem likely. If he really wanted to he could’ve killed her right there in front of everyone. In the end, he saved her life by taking her outside and giving her to the authorities. In my personal opinion, I feel like it would be harder for Zach to kill Rachel now due to their friendship. Or Zach still has to kill Rachel since he promised. ![]() This is how there could be a second season, to show them living normally. Then they run away and fit into society or live off-grid. The blood could also be there from jumping out the window, but you would think that the blood wouldn’t necessarily be on the ground. That is why there is broken glass on the floor, and you literally see them floating in the air before the show ends. The police are looking for him, surrounding him, he takes her as they jump out the window. Zach is already bloody from escaping his jail cell when he comes to break Rachel out. This final theory is also a reasonable ending that can lead to a season two. He began to accept her as his first true friend, someone that has a mental state close to his. He wanted to fulfill his promise to her despite everything they went through. ![]() That’s why there is blood on the ground along with broken glass pieces. Then he either dies from the fall or goes on to live his life. ![]() ![]() The police are surrounding them, he kills her while they jump out of the window. He breaks into her room and tells her they have to go. Zach does escape wherever he was being held and found Rachel. This second theory could definitely be true, even if we as fans don’t want it to be. This theory isn’t very plausible due to the fact that the window is broken. It’s already shown that Rachel has serious mental issues especially since she blocked out most of what she did to her parents during the whole series. Rachel plunged a knife into her and died because she thought Zach was already there. It is very possible that Rachel was so distraught once she heard that Zach was going to be facing death that she simply just hallucinated him being in the room with her. Now, let’s get into the theories of what could have happened since we were left with a cliffhanger. In the very last scene, it shows the broken window and blood on the floor. In the next scene it shows Zach in her room, he takes her and they jump out the window. She is distraught because that means Zach won’t come back for her. Then, Rachel hears that Zach is sentenced to death for his crimes of murdering all those people. Rachel is hoping for Zach to come and finally fulfill his promise to kill her. We last see Rachel in some type of rehab center to help her deal with the trauma she went through. ![]()
